Lisa Wood is Vice President of Customer Solutions for the Edison Electric Institute (EEI), Vice President of The Edison Foundation, and Executive Director of the Institute for Electric Innovation (IEI).  

As Vice President of Customer Solutions, she oversees EEI’s initiatives in electric transportation, smart communities, large customer sustainability solutions, national accounts, and military customer solutions.

As Executive Director of IEI, Ms. Wood collaborates with a Management Committee of more than 25 electric company CEOs and a select group of technology companies and provides thought leadership on current issues, trends, and innovation in the electric power industry. In 2015 and 2016, under Ms. Wood’s leadership, IEI published Volumes I, II, and III of Key Trends Driving Change in The Electric Power Industry. 

Wood was formerly an Adjunct Professor at Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies, an Adjunct Professor at Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service, and a Nonresident Senior Fellow in the Energy Security and Climate Initiative at The Brookings Institution. 

Ms. Wood currently serves on the Board of Directors for the National Energy Foundation and is a Board Trustee of International Arts & Artists. She formerly served as an Advisor to GE Current and on the Board of Directors for Energate, Inc.

Prior to joining EEI, Wood was a Principal with The Brattle Group and Director of Brattle’s Washington DC office; a Principal with PHB Hagler Bailly; and a Program Director at RTI International.  Wood holds a Ph.D. in Public Policy and Management from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, an M.A. from the University of Pennsylvania, and a B.A. from Rutgers College.

Adam Cooper

Senior Director, Research and Strategy
Institute for Electric Innovation
Adam Cooper is Senior Director of Research and Strategy at The Edison Foundation Institute for Electric Innovation (IEI).  In this capacity he: establishes and oversees IEI’s annual research agenda and supports all aspects of the IEI technology partner roundtable, a select group of 30 technology companies dedicated to advancing innovation in the electric power sector.  Each year, Mr. Cooper brings together over 60 executives from electric utilities and technology companies to provide thought leadership on issues influencing innovation in the power sector. Under Mr. Cooper’s management, IEI published two recent books:  Innovations Across the Grid: Partnerships Transforming the Power Sector in 2013, and Innovations Across the Grid: Volume II in 2014.

Mr. Cooper frequently publishes articles and issue briefs that assess how technology, public policy, and market structures are shaping an increasingly clean and innovative electric power sector.  Specific research interests include how utilities are integrating distributed energy resources into the grid, use of smart grid technologies and data analytics to realize operational efficiencies and deliver customer solutions, improving efficiency in the built environment, and transportation electrification initiatives.

He currently serves on the Executive Leadership Group for the State Energy Efficiency Action Network and on the Board of Directors of the Midwest Energy Efficiency Alliance (MEEA).

Prior to joining IEI, Mr. Cooper was a Research Associate at the Center for Automotive Research, worked at the White House Office of Management and Budget’s Energy Branch, and held the title of Economist at Regional Economic Models, Inc. (REMI).

Mr. Cooper holds a Masters in Public Policy from the University of Michigan and a B.A. in Economics and History from Brandeis University.

Mike Shuster

Senior Manager, Research and Partnerships
Institute for Electric Innovation
Mike Shuster is Senior Manager of Research and Partnerships at the Institute for Electric Innovation (IEI).  In this role, he manages all aspects of the IEI Technology Partner Roundtable—a select group of technology companies dedicated to advancing innovative customer solutions and technology that supports the electric power sector’s transition to a cleaner, customer-centric, and flexible energy grid. 

Mr. Shuster assesses the role of new technologies in the electric power industry with a focus on innovative technical, commercial, and public policy solutions. His interests include the advancement of smart grid technologies that use data analytics to better engage customers in renewable energy, transportation electrification, and building electrification programs. Most recently, Mr. Shuster published “Electric Company Green Tariff Programs 2020 Update”, "Electric Company Smart Meter Deployments: Foundation for a Smart Grid (2021 Update)", and "Energy Efficiency Trends in the Electric Power Industry (2008-2018)".

Prior to joining IEI, Mr. Shuster was Senior Consultant at Siemens Energy Business Advisory, where he developed industry expertise through management of utility integrated resource plans, developer asset evaluations, and city electrification planning.  Beforehand, he graduated from the Siemens Energy Engineering Leadership Development Program. 

Mr. Shuster is a recent alumnus of the Clean Energy Leadership Institute (CELI) fellowship in September 2021 and of the Yale University Center for Business and Environment (CBEY) Financing and Deploying Clean Energy Program in May 2020. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from the University of Florida and is Fundamentals of Engineering certified.
